I love the old look and feel of this classic handgun that has become so popular in the last couple years. In recent years there has been an explosion in the popularity of the 1911 series group, and most manufacturers produce a 1911 style pistol. Since I have purchased the pistol the only modification I have done to it was to replace the original wood grips with Hogue grips. The Hogue grips fit my hands much more comfortably than the original wood grips that came with the 1911. With the 1911 style handguns it takes some time learning how to field strip the pistol and put back together, after all the design is over 100 years old. Field stripping it isn’t quite as easy as Glock but once you master it, it doesn’t take much time at all. If this is your first 1911 I would highly suggest heading over to Youtube and watching a couple videos on how to field strip and put back together a 1911.
As I mentioned earlier I have had some issues over the last couple years. The most common issue I have experienced with the Auto Ordnance 1911 is multiple stove pipes (FTE). I have experienced this issue using the standard 1911 7 round magazines that came with the pistol, the Kimber 7 round magazines and the Chip McCormick 10 round magazines, all of which had the same failure to ejection issue. I have linked an article in American Rifleman that covers common 1911 issues (http://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/tuning-the-m1911-for-reliability). Whenever the Failure to Feed issue does happen its a simple fix by safely dropping the magazine out of the pistol and racking the slide a few times then inserting the magazine back in. If this is an issue you seem to have, I would not recommend this firearm be your Concealed Carry Weapon or primary home defense pistol until the issue is taken care of.
